Buddy class visit

On Monday we had our buddy class visit. We began by reading our favourite squiggle stories and they read us a piece of their writing. They showed us their cherry blossom Art that they did in Mandarin. We did some colouring and some people did a word search about the Rugby World Cup. Some people also showed their blogs to their buddy. It was fun because you got to see what your buddy has done in their Writing. Also it was nice to get to do something with our buddies because we haven't done it in a long time.

Bee Lady visit

We were extremely lucky to have our Bee Lady visit yesterday. So off we went to the hall at 9 am with our topic books and pencils in hand. We had the bee lady talk for almost an hour about bees and how amazing they are. I saw so many hands come up and so many heads trying to write down questions and interesting facts that they have learned about bees in their books. I learned some new things such as: the queen bee can lay 2,000 eggs per day, worker bees work so hard they only live about 6 weeks, bees eat lots of honey and then secrete beeswax out of their skin/fur, and that one bee produces only about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in their lifetime.

Room 31 and 32 had a little break and then we had our rotation session. We were really happy to have some parents come and help us as well. We made some beeswax candles, did a word search and quiz, drew some pictures of bee anatomy, and then got to look at the beehive. 

We all had a great time learning about bees and I'm sure everyone was buzzing after our day!

Exploration

Wow, what a term it has been! Room 32 has had some great fun learning about why we should go "Natural". We learned about chemicals, about why natural is great, what natural alternatives there are, and then we even made some of our own.

Well done, Room 32. It has been hard work but we have done a great job and even got to take home our products yesterday. I hope you used them or gave them to someone else who could use them.

Lions Speech Competition

I had the privilege of attending the Lions Speech competition tonight to see Zachary in action. 

He was extremely nervous and there were some amazing speeches presented. Some were funny, some were very serious, and all were very interesting. 

And then the big moment came... The judges had made their decision. They first mentioned how important structure was and how that was what they were looking for in any speech. They talked about how your introduction must state your topic and your key points, how the body explains these key points, and how the conclusion must state these key points again. To them this was what made the winner.

And the winner was... Zachary!

Homework Week 9 - Double Decker Bus

From October, 53 double-decker buses will be hitting our Auckland roads! These double-deckers can carry about 100 passengers, compared to the usual 45 to 70.

To celebrate, Auckland Transport is holding a competition for Auckland Primary and Intermediate students. The competition involves drawing a double decker bus to win a class ride on one of the new double decker buses! Wouldn't that be fun Room 32!!! Entries are due in 5pm 25 September. Please draw your pictures on a piece of paper and hand them to me by Friday so I can photograph them and have them ready to send off. Make sure you put your name on the back of the picture. Good Luck!
